Devate on Globalization

Dear mates!

How was today's devate on Globalization.
I was slightly disapapointed that I was in 'against' against my preferance of 'for' for globalization. Any way I tried to discuss to persuade the others. What surprised me was Polly's preparation of the devate. Her preparation was so thorough that she even prepare the authers' name. That was amazing! I was a little bit shame that I only mentioned about Japanese calligraphy for one of examples disapearing from the world because of globalization. The funniest thing is Susan's surprised face during Polly's detailed explanation.

Besides the debate, what attracted me was Prof. Len Barton's short lecture. His story of childhood was quite unique and worth listening. I think his strong opinion about higher education was deeply connected with his personal childhood experience. The line' primary and secondery education is not education' was the strongest line that I have ever heard in my whole life and, I believe, there is certain truth in the line. Because I also sometimes think that Education especially for primary and secondery level was politics. As far as I understand, what he means 'education' was based on learner's self motivation to learn something. He think only higher education is genuin education system because there is a freedom of thinking and autonomy of academia. He might declare strong opposition about globalizaiton, if he had joined today's debate.

Prof. Peter Hannon's lecture was very specific for me so I had a little bit nap during his lecture. Please don't say this to him and Suzy. Thanks to somebody's gentle push, I woke up and can listen to his lecture. Ha Ha Ha

Cheers

EPP blog starts!!

Dear members

As you guys know, we were taught about blog for learning .
You guys might remember that I said it seems not so realistic to have a blog because we have to submit assignments in two months. However, after I came back home I thought again that it might be a nice idea to have a blog for swapping our idear about class. Some of us (including me!)might be still not so clear about the concept of Globalization and neo-liberalism. And some are still shy to express their opinions in class (certainly not me!).

So firstly I tought that having a blog might be nice to share opinions of us. Writing letter sometimes is easier than expressing in class. When we express in class, we might feel some pressure because everyother students forcus on you and English is not so easy language to use for us foreign students. However, if you write somethng, we can use our own time to express your idea without any disturbs.

Secondly and lastly, it might be nice for me to reorganize my thought about classes I take. Sometimes what I am tought in class is quite complicated and sometimes it is exciting. If I write that the class take is complicated and write the point where I feel complicated, you guys might give me some feedback!

So I decided to start the blog for EPP members and my personal benefit. I want to make this blog for open space to share opinions. Thus I want you to get rid of any ristriction about courses. You don't have to write your name, if you feel it is comfortable.

Then let's start from now on!

How do you feel about today's lecture? To be honest, I have already known some of the information from her so I fell in sleep a little bit. Please don't tell this to Chris and Julia. But still some of information is nice to know. For example, it is quite interesting that David Cameron (leader of Conservative Party) has a blog (webcameron)and apeal his friendly charactor. And I found Julia's (today's lecturer's) blog (DrJoolz: Snapshotz on Life) as well. It might be nice to click above two and see what they are.

Besides that it was quite interesting to know 'Types of Blog'. According to her explanation types are as below:
  • Personal, confessional, everyday life
  • Business, promotions
  • Creatve Commons
  • hobbies, Pastimes, Obsessions
  • Political, Campaining
  • Creative, Fictional
  • Academic

My type of using blog is something between Academic and Personal following this categolization. If you guys want to see my blog then click here (Letters from Sheffield). The blog actually is written in Japanese so some of you do not understand totally and some of you who know Chinese charactor might can catch some sense of what I wrote. Anyway I agree that Japanese is one of the most complcated languages. Ha Ha Ha

By the way, I tried to build this blog and I knew that to build it is not so difficult. Some of you might want to have blog like me so I attached address of HP to build this blog (Blogger). Click it and you can easily have your oun blog.

See you next class.

Sam
